Chapter -3: ~~~ Listening ~~~

What is listening? ? and   What is hearing? ?

When I heard those question, I was a little bit confused. I asked myself what is hearing again and again. It took me a bit longer. And the lecturer gave us answer.
Hearing is just receiving sound. For hearing, we don't need to pay attention or focus. Our ears just receive the vibration.
However, listening is the specialized process, a type of perception, by which we receive auditory signals. Moreover, Emmert (1994)  said " listening is the process of receiving, constructing meaning from and responding to spoken and/or non-verbal messages".  It can assist us to learn, play, influence and help.

Before I started learning this chapter, I just thought listening is just we listen what the others say. Actually listening has it's own stages. "There are 5 stages in the listening process."  That sentence took my attention. As I'm also one of the human living, I do listening in my daily life. I listened to my parents, lecturers, friends and so on. But, I didn't notice it's stages. So,  one question popped up in my mind. "What are the stages of listening process?"

Perception

Firstly, we need to know what is Perception. It is the impression that others give you and what you project to others. Perception is very subjective and one's perception cannot be the same with other's. Even they do have same perception, it is still differ in some things.

So, what do we need for the Perception Process?
As the first stage, Sensory Stimulation has to occur. We need to occur one of 5 senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell). Then those Sensory Stimulaion is organised in the second stage. There is two principle for this stage. Finding the Pole star in the sky popped up in my head as a example for Proximity principle. it is very easy to find Polaris if we see the Big dipper. We know that a group of 7 stars that doesn't change while the others do as the Big dipper.

2nd day of my 3rd semester

. Luckily, I have same lecturer for Positive Psychology and Human Communication. Today is the first day for those subjects. So, we just took note the dates for our mid-term exam, and quiz in the class and also we have video presentation, this is really different from last last semester and this one, blog!
This is my first time using blog.
Nevertheless, this subject, "Human Communication" looks like difficult and it is not easy to pass the exam without understanding the lecture and knowing what the lecturer said in class. So, we are asked for paying attention in the class and for the lecture and not to talk in the class especially if we sit at the BACK.
