Firstly, we need to know what is Perception. It is the impression that others give you and what you project to others. Perception is very subjective and one's perception cannot be the same with other's. Even they do have same perception, it is still differ in some things.
As the first stage, Sensory Stimulation has to occur. We need to occur one of 5 senses (sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell). Then those Sensory Stimulaion is organised in the second stage. There is two principle for this stage. Finding the Pole star in the sky popped up in my head as a example for Proximity principle. it is very easy to find Polaris if we see the Big dipper. We know that a group of 7 stars that doesn't change while the others do as the Big dipper.

By the time I saw the picture which is shown in below, I just noticed the Triangle which is in the middle. Actually, it is just the picture of 3 broken circles. However, I knew that it is based on the Closure principle while my sensory stimulation is organised after I'd learnt this chapter.

In the third stage of Perception Process, Sensory Stimulation is interpreted-evaluated. This stage mostly based on subjective process.
The above picture was shown to me and my brother by my sister and we were asked how many animals we saw. Actually the picture got two animals, frog and horse. But I and my brother have subjective view since I only saw the horse and my brother saw frog.
The next subtopic topic is Processes Influencing Perception. There are 5 processes which can influence perception.
- Implicit Personality theory (one's opinion about other's characteristics)- halo effect (thinking about other good traits for a person who has good traits)- reverse halo effect (thinking about a person's other bad point after seeing some bad things)
- The self-fulfilling prophecy (acting on the prediction or formulate a belief and it becomes true)
- Primacy-recency
- Consistency
- Attribution (discovering why and what people do in a situation)- Consensus- Consistency- Distinctiveness-Contorllability
The last subtopic of Chapter-3 is Critical perception. In that subtopic, we had to discuss how to make perceptions more accurate within our group. Our group answer is not to judge based on his/her appearance, not to judge so quickly, and to think in a positive way. But, in the textbook, it is to analyze impressions, check perceptions, reduce uncertainty and increase cultural sensitivity in order to make preception more accurately.
